Walworth Castle is a magical location for wedding photographs and is a photographers dream. I have been honoured to be asked to photograph several weddings at Walworth Castle. This historic castle dates from the 12th century and belonged to the Hansard family who were famous for chronicling debates from The Houses of Parliament. Some of these can still be seen in the Library Tower. Walworth Castle is a Grade 1 building which has Tudor style architecture in abundance.
The Royal Choice!
The wedding venue was visited by King James VI of Scotland (1603) on his way to his coronation to become King James I of England. The suite in which he stayed is now called the King James Suite. So, just imagine the opulence and splendour which awaits. Think of the magnificent four poster bed which could be a backdrop to your bridal preparation photos. Be a King or Queen for the day!
Wedding Photographs in the Ballroom
Wedding photos at this venue offer grandeur and a quiet elegance. The Ballroom still displays its 16th century architecture and is a stunning place for a wedding ceremony. The floor to ceiling windows allow in lots of natural light whilst the grand fireplace gives the wedding guest a useful and classic focal point. A benefit of the ballroom is that it is south facing and overlooks the well pruned trees and countryside. The manicured outdoors gives the bride and groom lots of opportunities for stunning wedding photographs. This is an incredible place for our much requested twilight shoots. Just imagine the sunset in the background giving off a golden glow or the night sky sprinkled with twinkling stars. These photos always make the wedding album and often canvases. Many of the Bride or Grooms Parents and Grandparents request these too as they are so special and timeless.
Cardinals Court
Wedding breakfasts are served in this unique room. Originally, Cardinals Court was the main entrance to Walworth castle. This has been sympathetically restored so it has not lost its old-world charm. The blend of old and new works perfectly and is further enhanced by the natural light which streams in through the glass roof.
Do you fancy an outdoor wedding?
This is another hidden gem! Lady Palmer’s Pavillion is a recent addition to the wedding day choices. If you enjoy the stunning gardens and lush trees then this might be the venue for you. This offers beautiful floral and fauna backdrops to your wedding vows, but don’t forget the castle! So much choice, that it is best to have a pre-wedding meeting to discuss all your Walworth Castle wedding photographer requirements.
